COVID-19 Update: We are accepting in-person clients and providing Telehealth services
I am a Licensed Clinical Therapist, first generation to an immigrant family, Obsessive plant mom, Founder of TriHealing, Senior Leader at a community-based Mental Health Org., Avid traveler to unfamiliar territories, a fellow nature-lover, wounded healer, and professional photo hoarder. I grew up in a traditional Vietnamese household where my parents taught me the importance of cultural rituals, loyalty to family, holding strong values in & outside the home. Like many first-generation kids, I struggled with cultural and generational differences; the over critical parent(s), the "never good-enough" mentality, and a sense of emotional distance within myself and at times, within my relationship with my family.
I learned to challenge cultural norms that gave me opportunities to embrace my biculturalism and make decisions on how I wanted to experience the world as an independent Vietnamese-American woman. I patiently (and sometime impatiently) learned ways to communicate with my family, address my needs, and share my emotions in a way that inevitably adjusted our approach and relationship with one another, for the best. This resulted in me feeling safe and supported. The journey was not easy, but I was ready and willing to do the work to live a more balanced life; free from attachment to suffering -- I hope that in our work together that I can also support you in finding your inner peace. My approach to therapy is not a passive approach. I will frequently challenge you to step outside your comfort zone, to identify self-sabotaging patterns, and reflect on un(healthy) energies surrounding you. Most importantly, there is no "one-size fits all" in therapy, my role is to collaborate with you to design a supportive, individualized, and creative space for you to explore – a safe space where you can be your true self and share it with the world, when you are ready.
My professional experience dates back to 2009 and is reflected across various settings including specialization in high-acuity trauma, domestic violence, victims of trafficking, sexual/emotional/physical abuse, substance abuse/dependency, severe depression, anxiety, and system-impacted families in foster care, adoption, and probation. As a woman of color in Leadership, I also strive to inspire and empower my fellow women, out of their comfort zones to recognize their own limits and potentials to be strong & effective leaders in our communities.
At this time, I am providing a hybrid of in-person and virtual -- I travel between San Jose and Chicago. When I am in San Jose, we will meet in-person, otherwise our sessions will be through Telehealth. If you prefer only in-person, don't hesitate to reach out to me and I can help connect you to therapists who I adore and trust!
