Laura Romero, LMFT, BBS Supervisor

Fluent: Spanish

I am first & foremost, a proud mother of 2 amazing children. Through my personal and professional experiences, I've specialized in special needs families - one of my favorite people in the world has an extra added sprinkle of ASD; my extraordinary son. I was raised by a single mother and an army of strong Latinas, along with the opinions and judgments of a traditional Mexican household. I've had my share of generational trauma and the struggles that come with navigating a culture you are being measured against, that clashes with the one you are being raised in. I am a first-generation college graduate and a woman in leadership at a large mental health organization. I am not new to being 'the first' and found that this has become somewhat of a superpower and motivating force in my life. This realization helped me achieve ownership, gain empowerment, and influenced my personal growth. My story and journey also lead me to be quite a coffee enthusiast – go figure!

I've been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2016 and built over 14 years of experience working with minors, couples, and families. Additionally, I am endorsed by the State of California as an Infant Family Early Childhood Mental Health (IFECMH) Specialist and love dyadic work. Parenting has been the most humbling experience of my life, I strive to create a safe space for parent(s) to feel heard and supported – a place where parent(s) can ask questions, heal, and grow. My professional experiences are rooted in working with individuals and families who experience challenges with attachment, depression, anxiety, and/or various forms of grief and trauma (childhood and/or recent).

Have you ever wondered "why do I react this way"? Tasted the words that came out of your mouth in a moment of intense emotion, not really knowing if they were yours? Confused on why you felt safe in some relationships and not others? Curious about why you felt guilt after you made a certain choice? Trying to make sense of the polarization of your different cultures? You are not alone. My approach is centered around active reflection, challenging ourselves and pushing our limits, to put it simply. Insight is key, which provides empowerment and impacts our healing & growth. Working in the here-and-now may give quicker gratification, however – it is just as important to explore how our past experiences leave ripples and footprints in the beautifully dynamic person that we are today. This can lead to gratitude, acceptance, and self-love…And if we love ourselves and all the pieces that make up who we are, we are open to love others and in turn, receive love. We can heal. This space is for you -- we can dive right in or dip our toes in the water first.
